EnviroVantage provides services for $33m Cumberland County Civic Center renovation

Portland, ME - 2013-09-20

Built in 1977 at a cost of $8 million The Cumberland County Civic Center (CCCC) has been a Maine staple for many different events like trade shows, concerts and of course their favorite ice hockey team, The Portland Pirates.

The CCCC is located on the hill between Spring and Free Sts. within walking distance to many restaurants, hotels and the waterfront.

After nearly 35 years of service a task force was formed to look into the renovation of the civic center to modernize the facility. The plans to modernize would include the addition of premium seating, expanded concourses to include added restrooms, concessions areas and merchandise zones. Other amenities include a larger ticket lobby, private suites and club, team offices, administrative offices and new locker rooms. There will also be major exterior improvements to improve accessibility and exterior appearance.

In November 2011 the CCCC board approved the proposed plans and The Cianbro Companies was hired as the construction manager. With a $33 million budget, groundbreaking took place on August 22, 2012.

Since then work has moved along steadily until a recent three month delay due to the hockey team's playoff schedule. After the 2013 playoffs were finished EnviroVantage was hired to perform a vast amount of demolition throughout the arena as well as remediation services.

EnviroVantage has removed over 10,000 tons of concrete debris from the various areas of this project which has been sent off for recycling as well as many tons of reinforcing andstructural steel.

EnviroVantage vice president of sales Vincent Marcisso and project manager Dave Massaro have been on site working with Cianbro and other subcontractors to maintain a safe and effective project schedule are followed.

"It is great to be part of such a great project, to make such a significant change to a local landmark" said Marcisso. "Our company takes great pride in working with companies like Cianbro and to be able to work together on a project of this type is a definite win for all of us". This project is estimated to be complete for the upcoming 2013 hockey season. Construction is planned to be complete in Oct. 2013.
